The World Kidney Stone Institute is a comprehensive state-of-the-art facility offering the latest technological advances in the treatment of urinary stone disease. Directed by Mantu Gupta, M.D., a world-renowned researcher and endoscopic surgeon, the center emphasizes an all-inclusive medical, surgical, nutritional, and preventative approach to the management of patients with urinary stone disease. In addition to routine kidney stone disease, we specialize in the treatment of complex conditions such as staghorn calculi, cystine stones, horseshoe kidneys, ureteral strictures, pelvic kidneys, ureteropelvic junction obstruction, calyceal diverticulae, kidney transplants, stones refractory to shock-wave lithotripsy, renal cysts, and recurrent kidney stones.

About Dr. Mantu Gupta

Dr. Gupta graduated Valedictorian of his high school and was selected as a Presidential Scholar in 1983, being recognized at the White House by President Ronald Reagan as the top male student from the state of Pennsylvania. He went on to join the prestigious Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University and earned a combined B.S-M.D. degree. He subsequently did his Urology residency at the University of California San Francisco and completed a fellowship in Endourology and Laparoscopic Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York.

Dr. Gupta is board certified and has been an attending physician at Columbia since 1996. He serves on the review panel and editorial board of numerous publications, including the Journal of Endourology, the Journal of Urology, the Indian Journal of Urology, and Urology. His interests include poetry, for which he has won several awards and has published in numerous literary magazines and books.

He is recognized as a world leader in the research and treatment of urinary stone disease, ureteropelvic junction obstruction, urinary tract obstruction and in endoscopic urologic surgery, having pioneered many of the techniques in current use. The recipient of numerous honors and awards, Dr. Gupta has served as a visiting professor both within the United States and throughout the world. He is a frequent lecturer and moderator at national and international meetings and has published extensively in major peer-reviewed journals and authored innumerable book chapters. Additionally, Dr. Gupta teaches various surgical skills courses throughout the world and has served as editor and guest editor for numerous publications.
